Best Ever Sweet Tea

Learn how to make perfect Sweet Tea every time. Summer just wouldn’t be summer without it.

Whew. Is it me or is this week flying by? Don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled that we’re already in the middle of the week, especially since a three-day weekend is just around the corner – weeeee!

Before we’re celebrating the unofficial start of summer though, I thought it was about time that I’d share my very favorite summer drink with you all. It’s best when served ice cold and with a spritz of freshly squeezed lemon juice.

Now I know what you might be thinking. How does a girl from the north have any clue when it comes to the sweet tea department?! After falling in love with that delectable drink during a trip to Texas a couple of years ago, I was determined to serve Perfect Sweet Tea in our MN home as well.

I remember going on YouTube and watching video after video of true Southerners showing me how to make this concoction. After carefully following their instructions, I quickly figured out how to get the ratios just right and tweaked them a bit until I was sipping on a tall glass of iced tea that brought me right back to Texas.

Now before I tell you the secret behind Best Ever Sweet Tea, I thought I would share a couple of pictures that my hubby and I took over the weekend as we celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary. I still can’t believe I’ve been a Mrs. for that long, ha. It seriously feels like we said “I do” only a couple of days ago.

We decided to celebrate last Saturday (our actual anniversary was yesterday) and couldn’t have asked for better weather. Both of us love animals and we’ve always wanted to go horseback riding together. So I contacted a local ranch and made sure we would be able to hit the trails on our special day.

Pixie was the most gentle horse I could have asked for.  Her and Adam’s horse, Cricket, were best buds. How fitting :).

The afternoon was spent on a coffee date, taking a walk and just getting to talk. I am so grateful that even after being together for 8 years, we never run out of things to talk about and no matter what we’re doing, we always have the best time. Here’s to hoping that will never change.

Here we are on our way to the restaurant. We chose to go to a local restaurant called “Sontes” and enjoyed tapas all night long. It was some of the best food we’d ever had. Now this may come as a shock, but I wasn’t even able to order dessert. I know! I stuffed myself silly. I’ve never had to turn down dessert after a meal – it felt so strange and something I never want to experience again. We’ll definitely be back to eat our way through their dessert menu soon, which I’m sure tastes equally as amazing.

But let’s get back to the deliciousness at hand. You really only need three ingredients to make sweet tea. Tea bags, water, and sugar (or any sweetener of your choice). Since this is such a simple recipe that doesn’t need a whole lot of instruction, I wasn’t sure if I should even post it, but it’s too good not to. It had to be done!

Let’s raise a glass together and welcome Summer. Yay!

Best Ever Sweet Tea
Here's the recipe to perfect sweet tea every time! My favorite drink during the warmer months.
Write a review
  1. 5 tea bags (I use Luzianne)
  2. 3/4 cup sugar (or 1/2 cup splenda, truvia or other sugar substitute)
  3. 2 quarts water
  1. 1. Place tea bags into a medium saucepan and cover with just enough water. Bring to an almost boil, remove from the heat and let stand for 2-3 minutes. Remove tea bags from the liquid.
  2. 2. Meanwhile fill a 2 quart pitcher halfway up with water and add sugar. Stir until mostly dissolved. It's important to combine the sugar with the cold water before adding the hot tea liquid (to prevent it from tasting bitter). Add tea liquid and give it another stir. Fill the rest of the pitcher with the remaining water and place in the fridge for at least 1 hour or until completely cooled. Serve over ice and garnish with lemon wedges.
  1. This recipe yields 2 quarts and can easily be doubled
Deliciously Yum!
