Cherry Hand Pies

 Buttery, flaky and absolutely scrumptious hand pies are at the tips of your fingers. Starring cherries – these tiny pies couldn’t be sweeter!


I am finally making my pie debut with a recipe that is so easy to pull off, you won’t be able to stop making them. I mean, who wouldn’t be able to spare 10 minutes in order to enjoy a freshly baked Hand Pie?

All day long is what I’m thinking :).


You could definitely fill them with anything you prefer, but I have always had a thing for cherries. I have great memories of my grandparents and me driving to a cherry farm and picking them fresh from the trees. Afterwards, we’d always sit on their balcony and enjoy the fruits of our labor.

Before summer is coming to a close, I knew I wanted to create something that would bring back those fond memories of my childhood. Bite by bite, these amazing little pies are doing just that!


I thought about using pie crust, but had puff pastry sheets in my freezer. When the pies came out of the oven, I was so glad I went the puff pastry route. Don’t get me wrong, a good pie crust is hard to beat, but when you’re in a pinch and are looking for extremely flaky and buttery pies, this is the way to go.

Seriously so yummy.


And I can’t get over how perfectly browned and golden they came out of the oven. Too bad I had to wait a couple of minutes before taking a bite… just a little warning, they are HOT inside, so don’t find out the hard way and be patient. But you already knew that, didn’t you?


Besides puff pastry, I whipped up a cream cheese filling (to make them even more delicious) and added cherries, of course. It’s a pretty addictive combo!

Cherry Hand Pies
Yields 24
The easiest hand pie recipe around. Little and small hands will devour these cherry pies in no time.

  1. 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  2. 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  3. 1 egg yolk
  4. 1/3 cup confectioners' sugar
  5. 1 can cherry pie filling
  6. 1 large egg
  1. Remove puff pastry sheets from the freezer and place in the fridge an hour before using to thaw.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  3. 1. In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, egg yolk, and confectioners' sugar and whisk until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
  4. 2. Flour your work surface and place one puff pastry sheet on top. Using a rolling pin, slightly roll out dough until you can fit 9 (3-inch) circles on the dough. I rerolled the leftovers to get another 3 circles because I didn't want it to be too thin.
  5. 3. Using a cookie cutter, cut out 12 circles and place onto prepared baking sheet. Spoon 1/2 tablespoon (or more) of the cream cheese mixture onto each circle and top with another 1/2 tablespoon of cherry pie filling, making sure to get as many cherries as possible.
  6. 4. Cut out another 12 circles like you did with the first puff pastry sheet out of the second one. Place dough circles on top of other filling-topped circles, and using a fork, seal edges. In a small bowl, slightly beat and egg and brush on top of pies. Cut two slits into each pie and place in the oven. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until puffy and golden. Let cool for 10 minutes before enjoying!
  1. Cherry Hand Pies are best when eaten on the same day.
