Nothing better to start out the week than with a pan of decked out brownies. Or you can already start planning your treat for the upcoming weekend – there’s nothing wrong with dreaming about a weekend indulgence on a Monday. It’s probably the key to a happy week ahead :). Yup, it definitely is.

You most likely guessed by now that these brownies are inspired by my very favorite Girl Scout Cookies – Samoas. Also known as Caramel deLites. Am I the only one that had no idea Samoas were renamed to Caramel deLites? I was educated by my Facebook feed the other day (one of my friend’s shared a picture of her box) and I could hardly believe it.

Turns out their name was changed back in 2011. So needless to say, I was torn as to what to call these brownies. But after much pondering, I came to the conclusion that they shall forever be known as Samoas to me (I just can’t get myself to make the switch). Samoa Brownies it is. You can, of course, call ’em whatever you fancy.

No matter the name, the taste will still be out of this world. [Read more…]

Hi Everyone! Fair warning: If you’re on a diet you might want to avert your eyes right this second. Especially if you’re having a weakness for chocolate, brownies, or peanut butter. Everyone else, come a little closer. See those layers of brownies, the inside of a peanut butter cup and some swirled chocolate? Good. Because they’re eyeing you as well. Begging to be made ASAP :). I’m speaking from experience, guys. These bars have me wrapped around their tiny cuter-than-life pb cups. Very tightly.

It all happened on a very exciting Sunday afternoon. Let’s just say a certain professional football team happened to beat the Cowboys and we celebrated like real fans should. Victory tastes so much better when one has something fabulous to snack dive into.

Needless to say, I am ready for another Sunday to roll around. But while I wait, let me fill you in on the recipe deets. Because no matter who you’re rooting for (even if no one strikes your fancy), we can all unite when it comes to dessert. Oh – the power of food. [Read more…]

It was just a matter of time. Baking a pan of bars that are perfect to serve during the days leading up to Christmas (and beyond) was on the very top of my list. Every time I looked at it, I kept thinking that today was the day. But inspiration hadn’t struck, so I waited patiently until I had just the right idea.

And then it happened. While strolling the isles of the grocery store and spotting Cherry Pie Filling, I instantly knew that I wanted to use it for my future bars.

Having been a bit obsessed with all things red and white this year, these bars turned out just the way I was hoping for. A generous layer of cheesecake baked on top of brownies and topped with those beautiful cherries.

Did I mention how much I love Christmas? [Read more…]

Another week has flown by. I think it’s because I’m getting so excited for the holidays and have started to make lists, plans and am already bursting with joy. Yesterday I found out that Minneapolis has a holiday market. I hear it’s similar to Chicago’s Christkindlmarket. It looks like so much fun and I cannot wait for it to open. Their website describes it as a magical setting showcasing delicious food, handmade goods and lots of fun. It’s completely outdoors and the vendors are all in decorated wooden huts. I know what we’ll be doing on Thanksgiving weekend :).

Want to know about another thing that I am beyond excited about? Cheesecake Bars that come with a Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie Topping. I am basically squealing over here. There’s sooo much texture. Anything from creamy to crunchy to melt-in-your-mouth wonderfulness. I said it before and I say it again. These bars have it all. For reals. [Read more…]

Twix Bars

An easy recipe for Twix Bars. Dare I say they’re better than the actual candy bar?!

twix-bars

It feels like an eternity since I’ve last made you a pan of bars. Almost 3 weeks, which is about 2 1/2 weeks too long, if you live in my world. Whenever I develop a craving for some fabulous bars I am convinced that all of you must feel the same way. I don’t even know where this blog would be without them and have an inkling that most of you amazing readers are big fans as well. Immaright?!

Also, candy. I find it much easier to exclude candy I don’t like instead trying to make that difficult, gut-wrenching and basically impossible decision as to which is my favorite. Almond Joy, 3 Musketeers and Babe Ruth are the ones I could do without. There are just too many that are that much better and steal the show every time. Twix candy bars definitely rank high on my list. And because they’re the perfect thing to recreate, I couldn’t wait to make something that might be even better than the real thing – an entire pan filled with chocolaty, caramelly, and buttery goodness.
