Homemade Cream of Condensed Soup

Homemade Cream of Condensed Soup by Deliciously Yum!

In preparation of tomorrow’s blog post I decided to show you exactly how I make my own Cream of Condensed Soup. I stopped using the store-bought kind about two years ago and have not looked back since. It’s a win win in our house on so many levels. My recipe has only 4 ingredients and takes almost no time to make. It is so versatile and can produce any condensed soup you’re in need of celery, chicken, mushroom, tomato and the list goes on and on. We will be using a “can” of condensed cream of chicken soup in tomorrow’s recipe, which is what I made here.

You won’t need to keep various cans stocked in your pantry anymore and you’ll definitely be saving some money. I did the math and figured out that the homemade version comes to about 88 cents per can, which is almost half the price of the one you can purchase at the store. Another reason why I make my own condensed soup is that my husband is lactose intolerant which I have mentioned in previous posts. I use almond milk instead of regular milk to produce creamy yet lactose-free dishes for my husband to enjoy. It works like a charm! Feel free to customize the recipe to your dietary needs. Jelly Doughnuts

The beginning of a new year calls for Jelly Doughnuts. Not just any doughnut will do – they have to be filled with strawberry jelly. Why? I’m not quite sure. Ever since I was a little girl, I remember my mom serving jelly doughnuts sometime during the first couple of days of the new year. It’s one of my favorite traditions…. because, um, they’re doughnuts!!! When everyone makes resolutions of living healthier and looks forward to a fresh new start, we got a break and were allowed one of the fluffiest and most scrumptious doughnuts I’ve ever tasted. After that, we had another 365 days until jelly doughnuts would be allowed for breakfast again. Now you know why I’m so excited to share them today!

Since I have had many years of tasting the most amazing jelly doughnuts from a teeny local bakery, you can be sure that these doughnuts had to endure an extremely picky and choosy palate. I could not believe how authentic these tasted. Food that brings you back to your childhood always is the best kind. These came so close to the real thing – I am not sure I’d be able to tell the difference between the original and my homemade version. So awesome and dangerous at the same time. Hopefully I won’t have to break my mom’s rule of having these only once a year!

We always had to choose between glazed or rolled in sugar. And of course, I always tried to get away with having one of each, which basically never happened since they were counted. Smart, those parents! [Read more…]

Red Velvet Brownies with Chocolate Lovers’ Frosting

Red Velvet Brownies with Chocolate Lovers' Frosting by Deliciously Yum!

Ho Ho Ho. It’s Christmas Eve.

Few days feel as special as the eve of a holiday or celebration. I have mentioned before that I am lover of eves of big and small occasions alike. This one in particular deserves extra recognition as it’s not only a holiday but also a deeply spiritual day for me and my family. Our hearts are filled with excitement, gratitude and wonder as we ponder the events of this night so many years ago in our hearts. We celebrate the birthday of Jesus with a special cake every year, singing “Happy Birthday” and blowing out candles. Grandma will prepare her chocolate cake with white frosting while I wanted to go a different route this year. Brownies and chocolate started to swirl in my head and before I knew it, I had whipped up a batter of ooey gooey red velvet brownies and prepared the most outrageous chocolate frosting in history. No really. It’s epic!

Homemade English Toffee

Homemade English Toffee by Deliciously Yum!

Hi. Here’s another episode of candy Kathi loves. A couple months ago, I made Caramel Nougat Chocolate Bars aka Snickers. And there is no way I would let this year come to an end without making another one of my absolute faves. Heath bars or anything else containing toffee is another thing I could never get enough of. It’s the crunchy, buttery caramelized base layer topped with chocolate. The addition of pecans and almonds adds even more crunch and a nutty flavor that goes so well with toffee.

It is beautiful to look at and tastes even more amazing. Need a last minute Christmas gift? Well, you can stop searching and start making this quick and easy Homemade English Toffee. No candy thermometer required!

Seriously. Who wouldn’t want a goodie bag filled with this sweet treat? Homemade gifts are always the best, especially when they’re either useful or yummy! Yep, I wouldn’t mind sitting under our tree munching on this toffee and singing Christmas carols fa-la-la-la-la… count yourself blessed that you weren’t able to listen to that. My singing skills are definitely not meant to be shared. Ha! [Read more…]

Homemade Nutella

Nutella

A simple recipe is here to sweeten Monday mornings. Do you love Nutella? It goes without saying that I do. Eating chocolate for breakfast? I mean, it really doesn’t get any better than that, does it? The addition of hazelnuts gives the spread a wonderfully nutty flavor; adding a whole new dimension to the silky, smooth taste. If you have never tried it, please go ahead and give it a go. For those of you that know all about the lusciousness in a jar – rejoice. This homemade version is just as tasty as the store-bought kind and is ready to enjoy in no time. [Read more…]
