With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, it seems like the internet has been exploding with green and mint-themed desserts. I absolutely love it since peppermint is one of my favorite flavors when it comes to the sweet stuff. It also gives me hope knowing that Spring is officially less than 30 days away – can’t wait for green grass, abundant trees, and beautiful flowers to emerge everywhere. Oh, and sunshine. The thought of sitting outside on our deck and soaking up some rays makes me giddy beyond belief. But until then, these peppermint patties will have to do.
Now I know I talked about how much I adore the color green in pretty much everything right now, but there’s something I love just a little bit more: York Peppermint Patties. And there ain’t no green in them!
I wanted my first attempt at making my own peppermint patties to be as close to my favorite version as possible. And that includes the way they look. Nothing beats the beautiful contrast between dark chocolate and the beautiful white interior. Whoever came up with the idea for these definitely knew what they were doing. And once you learn how easy it is to make your own, you will probably ask yourself the same thing I have – why in the world did I wait so long to make these?? Prepare yourself to get your mind blown. With Girl Scout Cookie Season right around the corner, I thought I’d get a head start by making my own. Well, these are semi-homemade. And for good reason. Some things can never be replicated. Simply because the iconic taste of something we truly love and are used to is really hard to reproduce. If you call something a copycat version it better be pretty close to the real thing. Know what I mean? It’s the worst when somebody promises you something that tastes just like the real deal only to be negatively surprised. To say I was a bit skeptic about making these cookies would be an understatement.
But I had full confidence in my ingredients. I wasn’t going to play with making my own dough and cutting out a million tiny circles (not that I mind), only to be disappointed when it comes to the taste factor. I figured that no matter what these turned out to taste like, they would undoubtedly be delicious since the starring ingredients are all lovely on their own.
And were they ever. Not only did they hold up to what I had envisioned, but they tasted exactly like the original Thin Mints. I was floored and have had the hardest time keeping them from you. No more stocking up on box after box and stretching your patience until you’re able to get your hands on another box, Thin Mint Season consists of 365 days from now on. Continue reading →
Yep, we’re back to all things peppermint. Please blame Target and my weakness of being able to resist holiday candy in every shape or form. Have you tried Peppermint M & M’s yet? They have white chocolate inside and couldn’t have been a better fit for my Peppermint Bark dreams. I am a huge fan of crunchy things combined with rich and silky smooth chocolate. Needless to say, this bark disappeared within hours. It’s definitely a challenge to resist something this mouthwatering while trying to take some good pictures. I present to you Peppermint Galore!
I realize Thanksgiving is less than a week away and you’re more than likely busy planning for the big day. It’s such a wonderful holiday and is well deserving of all it’s attention. Nonetheless, I thought it would be nice to take a short break before hitting the home stretch. I am sorry if I’m breaking the “wait-for-christmassy-things-until-after-thanksgiving”-rule. As I shared in this post yesterday, I’ve caught the Christmas bug and developed a huge craving for peppermint. I was dreaming up this recipe for the last couple of weeks and simply couldn’t wait any longer to give it a try. I could have held off on sharing it with you, but that would disqualify me from making Santa’s Nice List this year. It neeeeded to make it’s appearance now!
